Aetna - very poor pay master

about
Worked for an Aetna business unit who's head told us in an all-employee meeting that he tries to get people for as low of a pay as possible (he doesn't believe in paying people). Stay away from this company, its like a government company. On the positive side, the work life balance was good, health insurance benefits were outrageous (considering it is a health insurance company), go figure

Aetna & Affirmative Action

about
Aetna dominates the industry with minority, uneducated employees. Why? do you ask - because they pay them less and can kiss the government's butt! I have no doubt they also get government kickbacks and praise for heir action. Sooooooooo, if you are white stand in line!
Aetna is one of the worst companies I ever worked for!!

Only cares about money

about
Aetna does only treat you like a number. I worked for them for 4 years went out on disability due to having a baby and came back and was layed off , but the new hires who weren't there for a month were kept . I asked why are you hiring when you have to lay off 2,000 people. They couldn't answer

Benefits are terrible

about
At Aetna you are treated exactly like a number and are routinely told that if you don't like it you should quit and go work somewhere else. It is a horribly negative work environment where you are constantly made to feel like you are literally a terrible employee and you should be thanking management for keeping you there. There is no possibility of moving within the company in any way at all. So much so that they have actually disabled the link to search for a job internally on the employee web site. Favoritism runs rampant as the same people are chosen for special projects on a daily basis. Work life balance is practically non-existant in that if you don't plan for time off at least 3 months in advance you cannot get approved for the day off which causes an unscheduled absense which they then knock you down on your score card for. It's a viscious cycle. 2-3 years ago I would have said job security was good but now, they are routing calls to Manila and it seems as though they are systematically weeding out the stateside employees to make it a manageable (cost effective) number of people to have a mass lay off and have all calls handled in Manila. Benefits are terrible. A ridiculous high deductible plan that you have no choice but to accept and you pay an arm and a leg out of your paycheck for it. every time this is brought up to corporate their response is the same thing "if you work for a car dealer you don't get a free car" Maybe not but you get employee pricing and if you work for Comcast you do get free cable. Respect? Aetna doesn't know the meaning of the word. The pay wouldn't be bad if they didn't work so hard to make sure that you don't get a pay raise. They will literally take a single score card objective and base your entire evaluation on it.
