Airgas fired me because I am going through chemo treatments "because I am not at 100%". Thats what they wrote in the letter. Bastards.

Worst company I ever worked for!

about
Worked for this company for a miserable two years after the company I worked for sold out to Airgas. Upper Management cares nothing about the employees and only cares about their stock holders. All we heard was how Airgas is a big family...that is true they are a big dysfunctional family. So many miserable people work in the corporate offices.I started looking for a new job after working for them for a year and finally landed one...Thank god! Stay away from this company.

Layoff

about
Layed off. Not a fun prospect, but I was looking already, so i wasn't displaced for long. However, the reason given was "tenure", and I was the longest tenured person in the department.

Airgas is a highly politcal machine. If you're not well liked by managment, they'll find a reason to excuse you. I was there for 7+ years, and have been on both sides of that coin.

Regional Presidents lack basic managerial skills, critical thinking, and are very good at CYA. Some AVP's are even worse. On the other hand, some are very good at what they do and deserve praise.

Here's hoping ARG is purchased by Air Products. It'll be a big culture shock for RC's to see how a business is supposed to be run.

The Layoff Game

about
As of mid-late 2009, Airgas is in the layoff state. They are randomly selecting positions to terminate without warning. After all, they can't buy up all those other companies if they're wasting money on you. They're handing out letters that cheerily inform you that "due to the current economic state" Airgas does not have a position for you, but you are more than welcome to apply back at a later date. There is no severance package. You don't get first preference when your job becomes available again. You just get your name back in the pile. Way to go Airgas! What a bang-up job!

Good Company

about
Airgas is a company full of innovation and diversified techniques. One can really learn new things and apply them in their professional life. No matter how much time you have spent or you are a newbie entering into this environment, you are taken as an important part and appreciated.

This is a family oriented company and everybody is rewarded for the work they do to bring out productive outcome. I wouldn’t say that this is the best company in terms of perks provided to employees, there are many other companies but Airgas is also better than many. It’s is surely secure to work here if you want to remain in the same industry.
