People and experience do not matter, transferring jobs overseas and lowering quality standards far below US standards allow outsourced jobs to exist.

Amex does offer lower compensation in exchange for work/life balance.

about
Compensation is not as good as with competitors. The threat is always, always there - and as a result, new hires treat the place as a slightly more high level fast food job.

Amex Hypocrisy

about
This Company espouses values but its leadership acts to the contrary. The key qualification at Executive level is whether you can talk a good act. Indeed, they even say that its not the results that count but how you are perceived. This change has happened over the last 4/5 years and driven through by pompous, self seeking and intellectually mediocre Senior Managers.Amex is a true wolf in sheep;s clothing and fear is the predominant motivator. It was a great place to work and one wonders if Chenault, a man of integrity, has lost touch with the reality of how his people feel. During the GFC, they displayed their true colors with those in the inner circle ruthlessly sacking strong contributors. It is worth looking at the Shareholder reviews to see the exorbitant monies paid to those who plunged the company into a loss spiral. BEWARE!

Training, Empowerment, and Value of Employees

about
Having gone through the 12 week American Express training for the Platinum Customer Care positon I must say I have never been so impressed with a company's view of it's employees. I feel more valued than in any other potion I have ever had. They empower me to stand up for our cardmembers and work for the right resolution respecting both the cardmember and the merchant. I know that this will be my career for life, and am blessed to have had the opportunity to grow into my best self.
