Recent Tells/Reviews on Aon

What work/life balance?

Aon has achieved its success through merger and acquisition and cost cutting - sort of the public version of a venture capital firm that buys a public company, reduces overhead, and takes it public again. Except Aon holds on to most of the companies it "flips." How then, can you save any money when clients are demanding lower costs for the same or more services? Simple - outsource, downsize, offshore, contract out, beat up your own vendors for deals and otherwise slash and burn. Depending on where you sit in the company, this activity has made you a well positioned managerial type or a bludgeoned peon. If you hope to work here, better to start off close to the top, that's where the $$$ and benefits are mostly being allocated.

Giant over bureaucraticized corporate monster composed of a byzantine collection of different companies acquired through mismanaged mergers and aquisitions. It's amazing anything ever gets done as there are so many speedbumps, so much politics, and so much internal red tape. Corner offices and prestige really matter, and the higher ups are unreachable in their ivory towers. Incomprehensible firm and therefore hard to assess. If you like being a worker bee in a huge hive, I guess this could work for you? Just don't piss off the higher ups.

Laid off and left to rot

I was told Aon decided no longer to offer a particular service to clients and one other person and I were the only people servicing the accounts. I got cut, she stayed. She's still doing the same thing for clients, so clearly the services were NOT discontinued. Meanwhile I was 55 when they laid me off and my extensive education and experience meant no employment offers at all. It's been 2 years.

It's the place to learn and et paid

It's good to work at a place where you don't only get paid but also learn a lot. My peers are very collaborative. I didn't feel the sense of a newbie when I joined it. I am enjoying and hope to stay longer here.
