Recent Layoff Tells/Reviews on AT&T

Very little chance for promotions and growth

Since industry jobs are becoming scarce, there is no job security as there is always a new face with more talent.

This sounds like management to me. A 20 yr old kid isnt new talent its less money.

I dont have any problems with my new job nor am I afraid of being replaced over-night. New talent really means less wages.

Lack of respect for employees

If you are in a group with lots of senior members, your opportunities for growth are certainly limited.

Why Not Retrain Manager level rather than Layoff

Since the announcement came out about the layoff -- the atmosphere of course has been quite tense. many of us have worked hard for AT&T and were rewarded by promotions and felt good to be in managerial positions. And now seems like it is the managerial positions that are being cut! If we were good enough to become mangers in one area -- can we not be retrained to be equally effective mangers in the new areas that the company's strategies says we will grow in. All this talk about re-training -- but the actions all seem to be to cut, cut employees that have served the company loyally for so many years.
