Yes, senior employees being laid off
This is true. I have been with BHI for more than 20 years and many of my friends/co-workers who have been laid off have been senior long term employees -- severance package and insurance programs took that into consideration but no outplacement support -- I guess they think that we don't need money since we are old. This is what you get after giving your best lives to a company -- or your ex-wife.

singling out senior emplyees?
I would like to get other opinions on senior employees being targeted for lay-offs. BHI's main core value is "Please the shareholders, they pay our huge salaries and bonus'" That said, they target the senior most employees due to the larger salaries.
In fact, I spoke to a BOT person who read an email to cost-center managers stating they were NOT to target employees with less than 3 years and within a certain age range. Ummm....excuse me, but isnt that blatant age discrimination? I have been unable to find someone willing to bring this email out into the open, but if anyone knows of it or knows someone that still remembers BHI core values, please post it.
If we can get a copy of this email, the authorities might be interested as well as those employees let go because of their senior status....hmmm...class-action lawsuit comes to mind!!

When I was laid off they gave me DOCUMENTATION of the ages of the others in my group. Only 1 was older than myself, and was Black. I had more years than anyone else in the group, and had sought transfer to a group where my experience was a better fit since I had qualifications that no one else in my group had. But the supervisor, who was an evil bitch, hated me, and was too well connected for me to fight. BHI places a high value on suck-ups and backstabbers. If you don't play you don't stay. Obviously I didn't play...my mistake. Have since applied to several jobs there where I could walk right in without any training at all and succeed, but have heard not one word. I am done with the idiots. Let them stew in their own viscous slime.

BHI - Bad Career Move
I worked for BH 12 years advancing within the company from a grade 9 to a grade 15. I embraced every job promotion with vigor and excelled in every aspect of the job scope. I was required to travel, put in at least 50-60 hours per week in order to maintain the business.
BE AWARE....loyalty only goes one way, Baker Hughes is a different company now and they are ONLY LOYAL TO THEIR STOCK HOLDERS!!!
If you are considering employment, do so and take advantage of the perks such as free training and 50% paid education....then get out and find a job with a good company.

1 of 1500
I was one of the 1500. I was laid off on Wednesday, July 29, 2009. 1 of 5 in the Engineering dept. at Emmott. Was about to celebrate my 4 yr anniversary on the 5th of August, so it really sucks. I do believe there were other candidates that fit the criteria far more than I did to be laid off. I'm not quite sure how they determine who is going to get laid off per product line, but the relationship between my manager and I was slim to none. He became our new manager only a couple of months ago and didn't really know my work ethic, so I don't have a clue on how he could make a keen decision on why I was picked out of everyone else in the group. For sure, the situation sucks, but its happening to everyone and I just need to change my lifestyle and hang in there till the economy starts getting better. Please pray for me and the many others that have joined me.
-Regards, Cubicle N-118A
P.S. The severance package made me chuckle. About 3 weeks pay for 4 years of service. Thanks BHI.

Yeah right 1500, I'm sure it was much much more than THAT. They had another big round of layoffs week of 11/9.
