as a long time employee of the longview facility i under stand your comments we are going thru a massive layoff here also. and noone will tell us anything about what is going on for the ones left here.uper management will not even come on floor.

Bemis Terre Haute

As a 20 plus year employee, here is my two cents worth.
What does Bemis Expect in Terre Haute?
The culture there was created by NG who ran the business completely unsupervised. The animosity between the union and management was created during his tenure and any management talent resident was run off because they were a threat to NG. So, finally NG gets run off to retirement and what does Bemis do? Put a salesman in there who has more interest in running up tabs at the local restaurants than making any tough decisions. He had the same below par group of middle management that NG developed! They are still there! Biding their time to retire, making no waves to draw attention to themselves and nothing ever changes... How could any thing possibly improve? So, the sales guy leaves and goes back to the club in Neenah and Bemis puts in another sales/marketing type in PM.
Bemis really has a lot to answer for in Terre Haute. They just will not make any really tough decisions and get out of the box. But that IS the Bemis way. The talented operations managers STAY within Curwood and every other division gets the leftovers.
Now the easy thing to do is to blame the union. However, I contend that whenever you display this level of incompetence in management, you have no right to expect the work force to have any trust or confidence in you at all.

life at Bemis Terre Haute

I have worked for Bemis Terre Haute for 20+years . I appreciate the life that I have had from my career there but,like most other employers in today's economy "no Mr. nice guy"They cut our hours as often as they can, restricted only by contract rules.We can not sit at all except on federally mandated breaks-this is a 12 hour shift-we even have to keyboard standing up.Our pay is flat but more production is continually expected from us.Once good work ethics were rewarded -now we only get a slap in the face.The constant down- sizing has caused many workers to be moved to lower paying jobs after 20+ years I'm afraid I will be next but I'm too old to leave and too young to retire.Is Bemis worse than most employers in the rust belt?Nope, this is the depression guys, you have to make the best of it.Support your union, its all you have ,as weak as it is.

Poor growth Opp

In such a large company it is very easy to get lost and not have our the value that we are adding seen by others that might allow for upward mobility. This is a major challenge – growth opp here. At times it seems like how you are comprehended is as important as how you perform but the two may not be related. Nevertheless, the company does have an open door culture and cross-functional meetings are easy to schedule and very welcome. But now through my ong services with Bemis, I have understood that chances for growth are equal to none here.
