Big Lots

This place is horrible to work for at least in Colorado. I have been gone from there for 5 years now and I guess they still miss me there. I hear they talk about me all the time. It does kinda warm my heart that they still think of me. Didnt think I was that special to someone.

communication

Some stores lack communication with customers and with their own employees. To run a company you need to communicate without that everything will fall. You will lose sales and customers. Lack of authority is also an issue. Some employees take it in their own hands to do what they please and no consult a management figure.

They lie

When I was interviewed I was told I would work 2 nights per week, I have worked more nights than days. My first paycheck was 50 cents an hour less than I was offered during the interview. I was told the supervisor changed it at the last minute. They think nothing is wrong with working you 12 hours without a break, giving you 8 hours off and having you work 11 more hours without a break. If what I know now was told to me in the interview I would never have went to work for them.

Co-workers are great to work with
Management and management decisions are fishy and not well spoken.
Offer more rewards to employees so that they will work harder

Big Lots used to be a great place to work, but not anymore. You can never do anything to please anyone , no one ever says that you do a great job, they just gripe and complain. My customers tell me that they like that I am always smiling, it is beacause of them, not because of the management because they just bring you down. Also this year we are open 9-9 on Easter Sunday and that is really crappy. The DM's and other higher ups just got back from {a meeting} in Vegas. Do you think any of them are going to work Saturday or Easter Sunday, probably not even Friday. They could of let us close at 6pm, but they don't care about employees at store level anymore. I have heard my boss say ,if you dont get at least 10 reward sign-ups I will write you up 1-2-3 and you will be outa here. Isn't that a great place to work!! I would never tell anyone to apply for work at Big Lots because they dont care about their employees.

D&TS is a sick environment!

Big Lots DC 890 is the most racist, sexist, homophobic, hostile place I've ever seen and, based on the stories I've told my friends, it's the worst place they've ever heard of, too. HR turns a blind eye to all the bigotry and categorically refuses to offer any training whatsoever on sexual harassment or hostile work environment issues. The Manager of Human Resources is a man who basically gave up years ago and is just going through the motions at this point. This west end of Columbus attracts a really rough crowd as far as the warehouse workers, temps, administrative assistants, coordinators, traffic / distribution areas go. Simply put, the jobs that don't require a formal education. To make matters worse, the leadership is very young and inexperienced and doesn't know how to handle the roughnecks. Imagine and entire office of people trying to sneak away from work, IM each other all day and gossip about all the "Ni**ers, Wetb*cks, Muslims, Bit*hes, F*ggots and @$$hole College Boys" that they despise. This goes on all day and the leadership does nothing about it. Blatant and gross Racism and Sexism are not only a daily occurrence at Big Lots DC 890, but an HOURLY occurrence. Sure, you may ask, "Why don't you quit?". Well, there are no other jobs out there in Ohio and the leadership at Big Lots knows it. D&TS has, specifically, been a festering pool of hatred, racism and sexual harassment for many, many years and, at this point, anyone with the courage to complain about it has been laid off / terminated. I've heard a class-action hostile work environment lawsuit is in the works, but I'm not holding my breath. The new VP of that area is the absolute worst, most offensive, bigoted offender in the book!

The company sucks, they only care about the how they can rip people off, including their employees. They all act like a bunch of 8th graders playing 8th grade games. Politics in the field what a joke!!!!!!

I loved Big Lots...till now. Why take Christmas out of the holidays? They have already taken Christ out of the schools and look where that has gotten us. Kids ready to use firearms at a whim. I see poor sales for your future but PRAISE GOD mine is bright!

EX Customer

Christmas is not a dirty word. I saw the commercial that called a CHRISTMAS gift a HOLIDAY gift. Shame on you Big Lots for taking Christmas out. I will never step foot in your stores again and I have asked my family and friends to do the same. I will Facebook about it and Twitter it. I will start a "Ban Big Lots" email campaign as well. It is offensive to me as a customer, Christian and American that you would see fit to remove Christmas from your ads. This is the holiday that sells your inventory. CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!
