I work at Biogen Idec in RTP NC. The company used to offer great fringe benefits and be very innovative. Recently the company adopted what they call "The NEXT" culture and brought in new upper management. Now, things have changed. Our goals are very stringent and the fringe benefits like vacation buy, summer hours, and other things are going by the wayside. Also, the company is becoming more of a call center environment (the new boss used to work at a call center) so, now we have tightly regulated break/lunch times and call codes, etc. In a few years I think this company will be no better to work for than other companies as benefits are taken away.

Revenge of the nerds! Very uptight and Ivory Tower-ish. Believe what worked 10 years ago will still work now. Hires people for a specfic skill they bring to the table then tells them they are stupid. Never thought I would say this but they really need to be bought by Big Pharma. Most of the crap they pull would stop in a heartbeat.

This company had a great reputation until I worked for the materails group, which has a total lack of respect for individuals skills and knowledge. When interviewed I left feeling like I could make a contribution, but when I started work with the Director there, his style and the way the company let him treat employees was shocking. Foul language, demeaning behavior in front of anyone, at anytime. His lack of control made employees not do the work, because of fear of retribution. There was no help from higher managment and none from the HR group. Many folks have left after a few months there.

They promised a lot in order to make sure I will turn down 4 other job offers. This is not about Biogen, but about a subsidiary of Biogen(Syntonix). The upper management is very poor.

Every day you really do learn something new. It's dynamic and challenging and all about what you make it. There is a good work-life balance as well as excellent benefits and the opportunity to work freely. The company has a lot of potential for the future, and this is a great place to gain experience and to be able to include as part of my professional resume. There is a beer hour every Friday that allows employees to meet outside of work. I would recommend a career at Biogen Idec to anyone.
