What a joke

Boston is the worst company I've ever worked for. I was told when they interviewed me that they are a "family oriented company who like to promote from within" what an absolute joke. I was there for almost 10 YEARS and nobody moved from my dept. NOBODY!!! My manager was an ego maniac who favoured people who were "his own kind" shall we say... Our bonus used to be 10% of our salary, then they changed it to just 5%... And THEN said half of THAT would go into the stock program?!?!? No thanks.... Don't work for this shitty, poorly managed elitist corporation... Let them dig themselves deeper into another merger that's will hopefully sink their "ship in a bottle" for good....

A very collaborative environment that included a detailed performance review process.
Senior management was incompetent

Legal & regulatory had too much control over operations.
Take company control back from the legal and regulatory department.

negative experience

The first 2 years were ok, but my 3rd and final year pretty much summed up the new direction the company started taking. Managers were extremely unprofessional, sometimes yelling profanities at employees in front of others. Racism and discrimination was institutionalized, employees and managers routinely used derogatory words against gays and minorities. I complained to Human Resources about specific incidents involving managers using derogatory words against minorities and gays, and Human Resources sided with the manager, and the company retaliated against me for documenting and complaining about it.

The company expected you to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you didn't, then you were considered to be lazy and not worthy of even working in the medical device industry, since you were told this is how all companies in the medical device industry work. The performance review system was a joke, since your bonus and raise was determined by peer feedback, and since every department got a certain amount of money each year to distribute to employees for bonuses and raises, the peer feedback would always be about stabbing you in the back because your peers would want to make themselves look infallible and deserving of all the bonus and raise money.

If you want to know the truth about this company's reputation, just look at it's stock price, and the way Wall Street treats BSX. The company has been losing market share to competitors, and revenue has been declining for the past 3 years. The company can only increase profits now through annual layoffs. This company doesn't have much of a future, since competitors technologies have leapfrogged this company in all the market spaces they compete in. Do not work for this company.

I've been with the Company for now!

The first 12 were outstanding, really felt like we were contributing to the medical industry. I have nothing but respect for Pete and John, they deserve every bit of their billions, and have always treated me with respect and developed a great work environment where ideas and effort were valued. However, since Jim Tobin took over 7 or so years ago the company has changed 180 degrees. He came in the door screaming that we(Spencer) were in the bottom teir of medical device companies, even though we had gone over 12 years with no 483's (0) FDA observances, passed every ISO certification/audit with flying colors and were quite profitable. Now look at us, it's embarrassing. The FDA warning letter, the joke of a quality system the bureaucracy! It's outrageous. They have basically quadrupled our work load trying to fit into their "mock" quality system, all the while the product is built on the same equipment using the same tooling, and made by the same people as 20 years ago.

do not work there

Do not work for them. Pay is bad. They are not "family friendly". They want you to work 12 hrs a day and 7 days a week. They have a history of laying off people when their is a change in senior management. They do not value employees and treat them badly. There are rodents in the office!!!

Their quality system is lacking. Any place that gets bats, snakes, spiders and mice on a regular basis in a clean room needs to have their factory and quality re-evaluated.

Work/Life Balance is non-existent seeing as they make employees work over shutdown and on holiday weekends and threaten actions against them if they don't show up.

Having fun!

The benefits are good and above average for the industry and there is flexibility with work schedule and taking vacation time. We are a great company with an awesome reputation in the business world. We always have great ratings with the stock holders and our revenue has continued to beat everyone's expectations. Because of our unique location, we have several amenities not offered at other offices, such as the Atlanta, GA office. Most importantly, employees are granted with full Health insurance the day they begin work – not after a month but same day.
