Corning / Wilmington

about
I worked at Corning /Wilmington and for the first 90 days you have no representation with the so called Union..Joke. They want you to run 3 to 4 machines as a new employee and a union member only has to run 2. You have to share a machine with others who have gone on a break and if anything happens you get fired. 12 hr shifts which cuts their labor costs and employee numbers. $13.00 hr wages.

Corning was a company who would hire your family if you were there and worked many years, They took care of their people. In hard times they would let you borrow money to pay your bills and pay back when you were capable.
Now you have to take a test and be a rocket scientist in order to get into there to be a utility worker. Which is stupid, there are people out there that need a job and don't have a genius IQ who can put their back into their work and make as much as an improvement as anyone.
What happened to the Corning I worked for?? Yeah, I pasted their test but I know many who scored low and were truned away. Their loss and another companies gain.

Industry Leader

about
Corning is an industry leader in display components. It has a good employee’s benefits package. The people who I work with are friendly and cooperative. Employment includes a tremendous benefits package that's unrivaled by any in the industry. In my job I'm always working with cutting-edge technology that you can't find anywhere else in the world. In short, I love my job.

I curse the layoff process

about
I got laid off from Corning this past week. Like other companies, Corning is also reviewing its employees’ performance to make layoffs. But it wasn’t true in my case as I had, undoubtedly performed better than many who are still there. I have heard about Wilmington where our talented people were laid off. They have not announced yet but it sounds like there will be more in the coming days. Good Luck for all who survived and wishes for the victims.

Layoffs galore

about
If you are not a very self driven and focused individual you can flounder at Corning. Like many other companies, advancement at Corning seems to depend at least as much on politics as it does on evading layoffs. Upper management gives priority to their chosen ones and the people with no interaction with senior management get laid off.

Corning's Announced Layoffs

about
I am in Sales at Corning and we have noticed sales are down but did not realize that down 30% -- other divisions must be really hurting as we are down just 10% in our div.

Just read in the newspaper on the 3500 layoffs -- seems like mostly manufacturing jobs -- but the time this is over all manufacturingg would have moved to China or India ...
