Recent Tells/Reviews on Dollar General

To the employee writing about the pay raises for Dg. It is unfortunate that DG does not give pay raises based on the amount of work you do. Pay raises are automatic every year for employees unless you are a store mananger or asst.manager then they are given only by a good review. All raises are usually .25 cents .The pay scale does not even come close to what you are worth. DG spouts the good ole line they care about their employees and give you appreciation days and contests to win but that is peanuts to what youare worth. If you stay you might as well get used to the idea you will work your tail off but you are only a body to them. Corp is lining their pockets and that is the bottom line. You wonder how I know all this I worked for them for 8 years working my way up to asst mgr and had to finally leave due to health issues. I seen it all .

pay raise

Well, I have worked with DG now for almost a year and it has been an eye opening experience. To say the least your job is what you make it. I have been blessed to have two very good store managers to work under. We have a wonderful store and a great crew to work with on a daily basis. My only problem is that I think that they should give raises on a basis of what you do for this company. That's really my only beef is I do not make enough money for how hard I work and I do work hard. Don't have to tell me what needs to be done, I just do it.

i work in one of the dc if you in the stores think you have it bad try working the dc need to have supervisers to work a long side the general warehouse workers my dept is understaff but they want us to still do more you can only go so fast they talk about they care about there employees but i have found differant and then the wonder why turn over is so high supervisers and managers need to work a dept on the ground level before being put in charge so they can see the problems that we see.

Vac pay

DG does not feel you earn your vacation time or pay. That is a benefit that they give you.I am assuming you were a key holder .If you were a manager they are not going to tell you if you do not use it you will lose it if you leave.I was told I would have insurance up to the day I left, how wrong that was.I had to have a very expensive procedure done on my back and to only find out later my insurance was canceled 3 weeks prior to my leaving.Dollar general expects way to much out of their employees for the amount of time and physical work you do. Don't get me wrong I am not afraid of had work and every job I have ever had I have given 110 percent .When you are treated like dirt by district managers and and no hours to schedule the number of employees to do the job that they expect it gets overwhelming..They expect managers and key holders to do the jobs of 4people. The conditions in the store are horrible .you are either freezing or sweltering. Our store even with the air working in the summer never dropped below 80-85.I would never tell anyone to apply there for a job anymore. Its just not worth the headache.I am sorry about the loss of vac.pay but Dg does not care and it is in their favor and profit that they do not pay after you are gone.

not paid what is owed

I worked four long years at dg and gave up a lot to do that. I worked last summer in 100+ degree weather with out ac in the store for 16 weeks. I lost pay because we had to close store down when it got to 95 degrees in there and that was most of the time in the am hours. I find out I am not going to get my 80hrs vacation pay. I gave them two weeks notice when I left and worked every hour that I was supposed to. I am very angry and dissatisfied with dollar general I wont shop there our tell anyone to.

Dollar General

i will start off saying i loved working for Dollar General was there for one year.back in early january i was working with my manager well all of are christmas stuff goes on sale well when i was on brake i got alot of cool stuff well when i went up to pay for it some of them was 1cent so my manager fixed all the prices for 1cent so everything was 1dollar but she had fixed it for 1cent. Now i am probley gonna lose my job over this witch is really funny cuz the company said i stole it even though i payed for what the manager charged me I also found out on track days are main manager would tell everyone to get a drink an leave it up front till we opened an then pay for it Now the company said that is stealing too. I have called off 3times in the year i been there been called in so many times always went in i have four childern i am a single mother an i work my butt off. This Company Needs To Treat there people better an take it up with the people who taught us this job cuz some managers need to learn there job a little batter cuz now i am the one that is gonna pay for it

I have worked in retail for about 5 years. I have a college degree. I have managed stores. What your manager did was unacceptable. As an employee, you should not have made the purchase though. I had a very difficult time understanding your post, I think I got the idea though. Honestly, I feel you should not be employed in an environment that deals with customers. I would focus on a career that does not require customer interaction especially dealing with writing. Work on your spelling, not sure how spell check missed 95% of your errors, but this was a horrid example of not only ethics, but also communication skills.
