dollar general gets away with only using their policies and procedures only when it benefits them. You can tell when a store is being improperly managed, the employees dont do anything and shelves are empty and the ailses are full of crap. but with dg the poorest management comes from the top, starting wtih rick dreiling. I bet he spends his days on the golf course. and if you get hurt on the j0b, lookout cause you are going to get fired. and if you complain on someone, they dont like complainers. and they dont care if you get retalliated against. they show the emails to the employees that are getting complained on. they make up lies to get rid of people and ruin their reputations in a new york minute. they do not care about their employees you are replaceable. there is always some fool out there willing to take on your job. thinking they can do better than you. in the previous emails, i always called the police and went to court. I had a .88 inventory audit. but then i quit doing that and just started to tell the people i knew they were putting items in their pockets and they could give me the stuff and never come back in the store or i would call the police. that worked good. i hope you get your vacation and if i were you i would not tell anyone about it. i was wrongfully fired and proved it and got my unemployment and they still would not reverse the decision at corporate. thats pretty messed up. its not like i wanted to go back thre and work, i just didnt want to have that on my record. good luck to all.

Improving work relationships

I have been with DG.for 7 1/2 years .Recently our store was chosen to clse at 10pm,we have to stay until 10:30.I live a half hour away. This means I get home at 11pm. Ok This is fine for the summer months the winter months it means 11:30 when it is really nasty out or a storm is moving in Out of my husbands pocket he pays for me to stay at the local hotel(75.00)He would rather spend the money than have me drive home in the dark and on bad roads. In the 2 weeks we have been open that late we have probably have made 500.00 if we are lucky .Now you pay 2 employees and the utilities .We are losing money.As the ast.mgr.I have to close 3 nights a week .Dollar General believes that we owe our life to them. I used to really enjoy my job ,no longer. Right now I am acting as mgr.since our mgr. quit due to lack of respect from the District mgr.and the later hours. I to will be leaving Dg as soon as they can get a new mgr.in place I was told by the District mgr I can not take my vacation time until that happens and I am not going to let DG have my vacation time .They feel that is a perk and you have not earned that so if you do not use it you loose it.I was very fortunate to have a very good mgr. and all of us were like one big family. Any employee can take their complaints to the District mgr .If you do not get anywhere there go on up the line. Would I recomeend Dg as a great place to work,not if you do not want a home life and made to feel you are a se ond class citizen by corprate.

Horrible Management

I have heard more than once that management in The Lakehurst Nj store is horrible toward their employees.I knew an employee personally who was very dedicated,management didnt care all they were looking for is their good rating by corporate.Customers have shop lifted many times in this store when reported to management they will not call Police a policy which I believe is to be strictly enforced by corporate guidelines.I have seen employees abused both verbally,and physically by customers in that store,when reported to management they refuse to call police,all they do is tell the customer not to abuse their employee.If they allow all this to happen it tells me poor management doesnt care about customer satisfaction in any way.This store is managed horribly toward its employees.Corporate needs to do a thorough invetigation in this store and see whats "REALLY" going on.I doubt corporate cares though as long as their numbers are good.Employees to them are just a number and can be replaced no matter how good of a worker they are.

The people who don't work are the ones who Seem to move up. My ast manger Will act like she works when the boss is there but when the boss leaves she goes right into the office to eat stolen food Talk on the store phone or her Cell And if she not doing that she is going on a smoking break or hiding It Makes me So Angry I have asked the boss to watch her on the camera but never dose anything about it But the boss Will never give cashiers Oh Wait " customer associate" A break She cut our hours from 6hours a day to 4 to 5 now our store is trying to go by the atlas so she Fixed it so we get 5 hours and 45 mins a day just 5 min's shy of a break We have to sneak away just to go to the bathroom and told we will be written up about anything and everything. And when it comes times for her to cut hours she tells me about it and when i see the next work schedule only my hour have been cut from 4 days a week to 2 and would only get to work 4 hours those days. i'm looking for a new job. this one is making me soo Angry I'm told I'm to do stocking cashiering Cleaning the store by myself counting my till restocking ,recovering and dealing with the customers some good some angry at the world for some reason and not even geting payed more to do more . Please some one help me by telling me i'm right that My Store is treating me Wrong this is not worth 7.50 an hour (was 7.25 got a 25 cent raise for being there a year in November)

TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL!!!!!

I used to enjoy shopping at Dollar General for the convenience, value and quick check-out. However, on my last visit to the Dollar General located at 453 West Commercial Street, East Rochester, NY, the so called "manager", Bob, FOLLOWED ME THROUGHOUT THE STORE!!!! This is not acceptable. There is NO NEED TO MAKE HONEST CUSTOMERS TO FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE OR TO BE TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL!!!! SHAME ON YOU, BOB.

I have been with Dollar General for 8 years starting out as a cashier and now as a asst. mgr. Now with this new atlas program DG thinks I owe them my life .The Schedule is now so broken up some days doing 5hr shifts then some doing 8.5.Some of the cashiers are doing 4 hr shifts with the price of gas now days it is hardly worth going to work . As an ast. mgr. there should be some perks to the job .Why should the asst mgr close 3 nights and the lead clerk only closes 2.We have to stay until 9:30 and it takes me 30 minutes to get home now with winter coming and I do live where we have snow it will take me now an hour to get home.Don't get me wrong i do like my job most days and I enjoy the people I work with ,we have a great crew .Dollar Generals policy about employees stealing is also way over the top .I know it does happen .Sometimes the policy gets in the way of managment doing their job. Back door key ,cashiers not getting their own change ,Managment checking out emploees . If we are constantly running to the front to do these things it takes away from us doing stock,cleaning,resets or recovery.Now that I have given my opinion do I think this will help not a bit but maybe it will make me feel better about what I do .I try to give DG 110 percent every day I go to work and it would be nice to be apprecated for what I do .

Just wonderig how the vaction time works...if you are hired in the middle of the year and you get your vaction time put on close to the end of the year....are you suppose to take it before the end of the year or before your hire date?

Give the smaller stores a chance before you shut them down.
Most common complaint I hear from people is that there are never enough employees available.
