well the un-employement sucks too. I will take your job if your unhappy

(Just a thought) maybe the manger should have a bucket in the office and the workers should turn off there phones and put it in the bucket before there shift and the only time you should get your phone is break/lunch/ or when your getting off....

so bend over, grab your ankles because as long as you work for them you will be getting it big time

its awful

so i work in Canada and here we can't make mistakes i am constantly being scolded for making honest mistakes i accidentally over charged a man on his debit and it took a while for my manger and other workers to get a hole of help desk who than told us to give them cash back which put the till at a shortage because the manager didnt know how to put it back into her debit through the interact, also i always have to clean the bathrooms and every time i clean them its like they were not cleaned since i last cleaned them. recently they cut our hours because my manager gave out too much hours and my last pay check screwed me over in rent im supposed to be a key holder which requires me to get a certain amount of hours a week. but that doesn't happen now i cant pay rent and have to call my parents, also since i am key holder i should know all the passwords for things but i do not my manager got mad because of this but oh wait she never told me them yesterday we got robbed and only me and the assistant manager were in i didnt notice and she comes up to me saying why didnt you do anything your till is beside the isle they stole from you could have stopped them uhh she knew she could have not only that but we are not supposed to approch people who steal in dollar tree because they might be crazy, at the moment i have no money to get to work soooo i am screwed i have no money to bus no ride and no phone my phone has no minutes so i might as well find a new job one where i actually make money so i can take the bus and pay for my cell phone rent and food

ha ha, welcome to the dollar tree world canada!!

Lunch please

When you are the only assistant manager on duty how do you take an uninterrupted lunch. You don't. Are you listening Illinois Labor Department?

If it wasn't a change request, a return or a general question it was often necessary to run a register to get people out. Even while on Lunch or Break.

Just compare the clock in and out with the register sign on to make your case Mr or Mrs States Attorney.

as an ex store manager, if you don't like it quit, it will never change. they do not care about you or anyone else accept the bottom line, they work you like a dog, give you un-realistic goals and this lawsuit has been going on for years for working off the clock, o forget about changing anything

Dollar Tree

ive been working here for three years. I know we're only supposed to be getting 15-20 hours a week, But i am so underpaid it makes me sick. ive been here for THREE years, almost four and i get paid under 8 dollars. I think cashiers should get paid at least 8 dollars an hour, we deal with the crabby and irate customers, WE work our asses off. and WE get shit on. It doesn't matter, part time or not. We deserve a better pay that 7.75 or 7.25, I want to be making at least 8.00 an hour withing the next year or you will lose me forever, Not like its a big deal to me. your company is a piece of shit. And I'm going to school to better myself making 10xs more then what you give us. Good luck,

they suck

I Don't like it have worked there 3 years and they never give you raises and the hours!! You don't wanna get me started on the hours. they work you for like 4 or 5 hours a day that way you have to work all week just to get your minimum amount of hours. then if you call in they say no you have to come in. I was so sick and called in and my manager was like idc you have to come in. I was furious! There is no benefits so don't even think about that they suck. I would never waste my time or money on the benefits! I have been passed up 5 times for freight manager because they said i was too young! I was 19 and the people they hired didn't last 2 months!! They tell you to get other stuff done but when you don't get something done that they didn't tell you to do you get chewed out. Overall place sucks don't even start working there.

i guess this really happens

that place is sketchy...."mgrs" seem unimformed....the store's look/neatness is poor....reflective of the poor outlook/judgement of those that shop in store...ie store looks cheap because the products/people are cheap.....NEVER a REAL schedule...VERY STRANGE....never set START TIME just HOW MANY HOURS YOU HAD TO WORK ONCE YOU ARE CALLED...truthfully actually SAW a schedule...but NO ONE IN THE BLDG followed it...had OVERFLOWING freight in whse....would get harassed about "getting the freight out"...but when asked if freight team could start at 5 am or possibly earlier to (a) get out MORE freight and (b) be out of the way of customers at open of store....answer more times than not was "naw thats TOO EARLY im NOT gettin up for that"...mind you..dude lived maybe 2 mins from me...other mgr....while very nice....best way to describe this one would be.."lot of personal irons in the fire"....store looks like trash....empty endcaps...never any recovery after hours/b4 next business day....best to "clean house"....dist mgr seems to have complex...of an "absentee parent/landlord"....similar to bush telling brownie that he's doing a heckuva job.....now back on topic....it all just felt sketchy/scandalous ...from the beginning...never had a job where i had to call in to see if i worked....feel dirtier for working there....wont look at that place the same.....overall strange experience....

where do i start?

If you are thinking about applying at a DollarTree store, please do yourself a favor and throw the application in the garbage. if you are an employee, you will probably be cashiering. the customers are as rude as they are numerous, and you will be degraded on a daily basis. you will also ALWAYS be the ONLY employee other than the manager on duty. you will be confined to a tiny cubby hole, and if you leave your post for EVEN ONE SECOND, the sh*t will hit the fan. despite your best efforts, the customers will completely undo any cleaning you have done within minutes. as the months progress, you will have a hard time preventing yourself from walking out on the job, EVERY DAY. you will count PILES and PILES of dirty change from some of the biggest scumbags on the planet. i suggest wearing latex gloves, i didn't and found myself catching many colds. now thats just while the store is open; closing time is a whole different ball game. you will spend anywhere from 1 to 3 hours (depending on your manager's work ethic) every night cleaning up what the idiot customers have left for you. time to clean the bathrooms? go to the chemical wall and grab yourself some yellow gloves, cause its gonna get filthy. the first thing that you will notice in the bathrooms is toilet bowls filled with feces (strangely no toilet paper in the bowls....DT customers must be too good to wipe) and in the womens bathrooms, discarded bloody tampons. its your job to make the bathrooms appear "presentable" flush the toilets, spray a bunch of air freshener and get the hell out of there. after the store has been cleaned up, it's now finally time to go home and tell your family about your wonderful DT experience.

manager training lies

I just had to express my concern with something i am going though that i do not agree with. I have been with the dollar tree company for years now and i have worked my way up from cashier to full time assistant manager,, being a cashier for only a month and moved up fast, i covered as a temp store manager twice for a period of about 6 months when our store didnt have one. My thing is that i was asked to be store manager and that i would have to take the SMT program for 8 weeks , at that time i was making salary becouse i was covering as a store manager. I agreed to go and iam in that program now just to find out 3 days into the program that i would not be getting store manager pay. NOT knowing going into this because everyone failed to tell me, when i asked my dm on the 3 rd day what i would be making i get didnt so and so tell you and iam like no. come to find out i would only be getting full time assistant manager pay. WHY?? This part i just dont get,, knowing that the person who just finished the program ahead of me gets store manager pay. i asked another store manager what they got and they said that you get what you would get as a store manager at the store you are going to . so my question why does a person who has been with the company for years ++ make less in a store manager training program then a person coming off the street would make. really not fair i think. and i just dont get it ,, it just made me feel like iam only worth half as much to the company as a person off the street. and i have been with the company years. MYQUESTION::why does a person with the company make half as much as a person off the street would make in the SMT program??? PLEASE ANSWER ME CAUSE I JUST DONT GET IT. i can make store manager pay as a temp , but i cant make it to train ? its not a full time assistant training program so why that pay! so iam going to make 9 dollars an hour to shadow a store manager

My story

I am coming to my seventh year at Dollar Tree and I must say many things have changed. I used to like my job but not I hate it. If I could I would quit and get another job but the job market here in Michigan is bad. I am currently the Merchandising Mgr. and through the years they increased the workload and cut payroll. So now I have twice the work and half the time to do it in. I sometimes have to work off the clock to get things done. Our average truck is 2300 boxes and up too 3000.
Dollar Tree expects my stock crew to get all of that product out in 48 hours. IMPOSSIBLE! They do NOT monitor what we have in the stock room, I mean how many cases of red napkins do you think we sell?? Dollar Tree only cares about making money and the Stock Market. They think they are a big box store yet run the company like a mom and pop store.
I know that the whole idea is to make money but they do not seem to understand that it costs more to keep hiring people than to try and keep people. They ask for ways to save money but they waste money by giving away ipods and $1000 for a survey! They nickle and dime their way though. I know that there are stores that are not that bad to work in and there are some that are horrible.
Dollar Tree will NEVER change their ways because they only think of the money, they know that people will work for them because they need the money. Compared to the amount of work they ask you to do the pay is horrible! Dollar Tree NEEDS to re-think on how to do business. Starting with the way they ship merchandise. I damage out at least $200 a week because the truck is loaded like crap. They can save payroll by shipping some of the items on skids and having a lift gate on the trucks, such as 3 liters have them on a skid and with a lift gate on the trailer we can unload the skid drop it in place and save 30 minutes of unload time, saving money in the long run!!
