EMC employee competence is a very mixed bag. EMC has acquired some brilliant and hard working people that have not been driven out or ejected yet, but many of the long timers are more focused on political positioning and visibility than on useful work.
The environment is politically charged with significant internal competition. Some managers have created great environments, but more often than not there is unnecessary stress and manufactured problems that allow managers to be heroes by working their staff to exhaustion to demonstrate their value.
