Am I interested?

about
After reading that office politics are EMC's prime method of operation, I no longer have an interest in what I saw as an experienced, finance professional's dream-dynamic company. Who is in charge? This childish approach to business must start at the top and spells disaster for investors!

EMC employee competence is a very mixed bag

about
Salary is generally OK, but EMC expects extraordinary effort for barely ordinary compensation.
Respect is only earned by hitting the quarterly number and supporting your manager's efforts to beat the internal competition, the customer often comes in second or third to political goals.
Benefits are at least average, but efforts to cut family members out of the program leaves a bad taste.
Because of the continual acquisition of companies, there are continuous reductions in force that decimate morale.
Balance varies greatly from manager to manager, most feel that only they deserve a personal life.
Career growth also varies from area to area, and some managers only give opportunities to sycophants or people with the right political connections.
EMC employee competence is a very mixed bag. EMC has acquired some brilliant and hard working people that have not been driven out or ejected yet, but many of the long timers are more focused on political positioning and visibility than on useful work.
The environment is politically charged with significant internal competition. Some managers have created great environments, but more often than not there is unnecessary stress and manufactured problems that allow managers to be heroes by working their staff to exhaustion to demonstrate their value.

Many Layoffs occured at EMC

about
I too was one of the many that was laid off from EMC and have been in the professional industry for 12 years. There is no such thing as loyalty in corporate America, so if that is what you are looking for then you will be continually disappointed wherever you go. The one thing I found funny was the amount of people who got laid off who did not want to lose their jobs. They are there to make you think that the company is responding to employee concerns/complaints. It’s not about who you know it’s all about how much you brown nose and how much you look like you are trying round here.

EMC layoffs

about
Personally, I do believe that this can be frustrating at times to be stressed with furloughs on one hand and work pressure on the other. Employees are exhausted with extra work; long hours and still fear of job lose. It’s getting demanding to work at EMC while the management shows no sign of interest in this regard for the employees.

I stayed late every day for two weeks working on reports for my boss to justify his job and our department. After all that, my boss came in one morning beaming and telling everyone how he single-handedly saved our department, and how it was going to be smooth sailing from here on out.

Later that day he got rid of me and other people.

Well! EMC is an awesome place to work. I have been working here as a systems engineer for about 1 year and I must say that it provides the perfect working environment. Especially, nice place to work for programmers.
