Laidback culture

about
If you're willing to take on a large project, Exide will be more than happy to give it to you. The people I have worked with over my career have treated me well and management has always had a family first attitude. People are also veritably nice, treating others and their ideas with an impressive respect and candour. They are also quite an honest and down to earth company. The diversification lays out many possibilities for trying new things. Internal hiring is common and often strongly favored. It's also a very stable company, so job security is really great.

over hulton

about
fully sympathise with all you guys, as the plant in over hulton uk is now being closed. Dont know what payoff you guys get, but exide have just shut the auxerrre plant in france and have agreed to pay the employees there between 50,000 and 90,000 euros extra on top of their redundancy payments in agreement that they wont destroy the factory. Loyal employees get the minimum whilst terrorism is handsomely rewarded..............and i thought america fought against terrorism!!!!!!!!!!

Nail in the Coffin Alert!

about
Ask yourself how much of the criteria below falls into what's currently happening in Bristol. Does anyone who's left or not left for that matter think Exide in Bristol will be opened by the end of summer?

Possible Signs of an Imminent Plant Closing
1. CHANGES IN PRODUCTION
Has production at your company been cut back? speeded up? become irregular?
Has maintenance been stopped or postponed?
Is there a shortage of supplies, raw materials, or parts?
Are there fewer product lines than there used to be?
Have safety conditions declined?
Is equipment being removed?

2. CHANGES IN PERSONNEL POLICY
Has the company stopped hiring?
Have there been layoffs?
Has the work, the number of shifts, or overtime been reduced?
Are managers or skilled workers moving to another location?
Is there increased sub-contracting, or use of part-time or temporary employees?

3. CHANGES IN MANAGEMENT
Has the company been sold to out of town owners who do not appear interested in maintaining your plant?
Is the company owned by an individual who plans to retire and has not given any indications of plans for the company afterwards?
Have the plant's managers been replaced by new management which seem less interested in, or capable of, running the plant?

how they chose

about
I'll be an ex-employee soon, just as 70% of the current employees. They got rid of almost everyone who has had an accident that was reported, has FMLA, has been written-up for anything, or had many points. It seems the only ones that knew this was coming were upper management that didn't get canned. The people left that I know aren't very enthusiastic about the road ahead. If you search on the internet a little you can see were they announced large investments in their Salina plant. All of the batteries that are being taken away from Bristol will be moving to Salina. They have also been working on certifying Salina to build Toyota and BMW. Once that happens you say good-bye to the Bristol plant.

Bristol Excide layoff

about
I'll be an ex-employee as of May 1st. I just left the 1st meeting and they said they would be laying off 557 people. That's about 70% of the workforce in Bristol. No questions were taken during the meeting.
