Stylist in a 28 chair salon. Really upset about being demoted from Master stylist to Senior Designer. Went from new price raise in Feb. to being demoted to Senior. We all are felling they will probrably get rid of the salons at JCP within aYr. There are no products on back bar and the retail shelves are bare also. What does everyone else think??????

I work in one of the JCP salons also. We almost never have what I need to sell. It is very embarrassing and a total disgrace to our profession. What is up with this Nick Stenson guy? He has got to be a total ass-kisser. Just because he's getting paid probably some very good moeny, he doesn't care about us hairdressers or his profession. I'm sure it feeds his big fat ego. No scruples whatsoever.

concerned

jcp needs to let employees know the facts so we can make our own decision to stay or leave. When i told our store manager what "my clients say about the salon, her response was, "then why are u still here?" I am a new employee at the salon and brought my clientele with me from being a booth renter looking for a rewarding career with benefits. Not happy about the way I am treated by management. Be positive or go home

Getting another job

I wouldn't have minded working at JCP so much except that we're out of stock / only getting a few in, not to mention the prices going up drastically, since people demanded the coupon system. You really aren't saving money, people; if anything, they're really ripping you off going back to the old system at the rate they're jacking the prices.

I don't like representing a store like that, and I'm tired of all the stress that filters down to us "peons". Constant rearranging... And the construction. The dust (and moldy smell) makes us all sick to our stomachs.

I'm sorry, but I need a drastic pay raise with full time hours and benefits before JCP becomes a place to really work for anymore... Not to mention the schedule coming out at a decent time and not changing at a moment's (or no) notice. The store I work for is pretty much constantly hiring, at the rate people are leaving. I'm joining that group.

Hate the Libbies, associate has to walk all the way across the store to get receipt - customers want a hard copy receipt, not an email. Half the time they do not work Hard to carry a walkie hooked on your belt, a Libbie, and still bend over to fold and recover floor without dropping them a dozen times. They have closed 8 registers in store, so lines back up where there are still registers. And if you get busy with a catalog order or a credit app, line backs up. Have had many customers get frustrated and give up, dump their merchandise and leave. Computers freeze as you go from sale screen to the "enter email or zip code" screen. Takes forever. Also, managers forever going on about ICAPS, but if you work in a department where there are no longer registers, hard to get ICAPS. Now customers have their sales and coupons back, great, but outrageous price increase. Pair of dining rooms chairs when from $175 pair to $380/pair. Same chair! Ridiculous.

I could not agree with you more! Maybe at Apple Stores the Libbies would work since for the most part customers are paying for one or two items. Now try ringing several items in a Libby that not always work, and without a counter where to put down the items already scanned. Then like you said run after the receipt, (not counting when by mistake the receipt was printed in a different register....) and after the plastic bag. Totally ridiculous, but even more ridiculous the attitude of the managers, that acted like we had discover penicillin.....I hope they give up in the Libbies.

Worst job ever, Merced jcp

The company it self is not that bad. But with recent changes their raising the prices and ripping off people in the process. The manager's don't know what their doing, and ask the associates (that are not being mng trained or been then less then them) for advice on situations they should have the authority on, one mng says to do one thing, another Mng a diff thing, making it harder to do your job and make a fair and right choice for the customers. Besides that the MNG are mean, and talk down to the associates. Not a good work environment.

Beware before working at JCP salons

JCP has recently returned to commission but at a much lower rate (42%) at the low end & the high end(60%) is very hard to achieve within most stylists scheduled work hrs.Stylists are tiered by title of designer, senior designer & master. The two lower titles make less commission for bringing in the same amount of service money. Commission is figured weekly but pay checks are every two weeks. Instead of combining the two weeks, percentage is figured weekly,so commission pay varies from week to week. No full time insurance under 35 hrs & JCP does not give any stylist that many hrs. Stylist must meet minimum productivity standards hourly or be terminated. Must also meet productivity standards of their title (designer, senior or master).Must attend classes or not be able to be promoted. Which is only twice a year.Front desk has been eliminated. Replaced by a position that has to be a licensed cosmetologist. Doing front desk duties, assisting stylists, selling retail, can only do hair if requested or a walk in & no other stylists are available, must build a clientele & move to floor within 1 yr or you will be terminated. Retail commission has been eliminated. With Ron Johnson gone & different CEO changes are likely.Very little stability with JCP in this state of constant change.

Sums it up perfectly! I wish I read this before coming on board and yes this is just the way it is. I am bringing in 400 in sales in 3 days but to make that 42% I need to make 416.00. instead, I've been making the min. wage at 7.25 an hour. Way to go jcp for making your employees feel appreciated.

I've been working the new front desk position and am quitting tomorrow. As busy as the stylists stay with there regulars, it is almost impossible fo me to take most of the walkins and be responsible for the front desk. In the interview, they made it sound like it would be a gradual process. Yeah. I was taking walkins on my second week whilst still trying to learn the front desk duties and computer system. Cannot wait to get outta there!

I am a former Jcp salon manager demoted to leader then elminated because I didn't want to lead two salons in two cities 45 min apart. I loved my job until they started making me lie to my team of talented stylist. I started seeing retirement age people being fired or offered severance pay. I too was offered severance pay or take the job of leading two salons with no pay increase and truthfully a pay cut!!! I worked outside the salon when the store was short staffed and my stylist did too during busy seasons. I was so disenfranchised with Jcp by the end that I left the job and people who over time I had come to think of as a family. There were people who under Rons direction were eliminated After 30 plus years. Benifits were lost and stylist left some quit their career and moved to new careers the disrespect of treatment they endured was sad !

Changes

I basicly like the look of the new store, opened. I don't like the fact they are getting rid of all the registers. It is a pain to be checked out with the Libbies and half the time they don't work. I also hate the fact they got rid of the receptionist in the salon. When you call there you get a different person if you get anyone at all. When you do get someone they act as if you are bothering them.

I used to shop at JCPenney at least twice a week but not anymore. I want the salon receptionist back and also the registers.
