MedQuist, pay sucks, comp;any sucks

I agree with all the bad things people say about this company. I have been a medical transcriptionist for 20 years, and always loved the job, but unfortunately, my hospital outsourced us to MedQuist. My salary was cut in half! I continued with the same long hours (weekends, holidays, etc.) and same dedication (attention to detail, researching terms, at maximum typing speed), yet, with no raises over the 8 years I have been with them, and in fact, now, salary cuts, dropping to about $400 less per month. Management doesn't care, supervisors who are not transcriptionists and often illiterate tell us what to do and don't help us, often in a scolding and demeaning manner. There are never any compliments. Also, MedQuist ignores complaints about dictators who cough into the earphones or bang the phones down. As far as quality, we used to get yelled at for leaving blanks, even if we absolutely could not hear what the dictator was saying. We were told not to leave blanks. QC would just fill something in, so that the blank would not go through to the client. Talk about a dangerous policy! Someone must have squealed on them, because they no longer scold us for blanks, but if we send something to QC for a second opinion, our pay for the entire document is cut by 70%. How are the new gals supposed to learn if they are penalized for asking questions? The quality of the work is nothing like it used to be when we were employed by the hospitals, but I guess it serves the hospitals right for getting rid of us in the first place! I just feel so sorry for the doctors and the patients, because most of them have no idea of what has happened behind the scenes.

This is quite interesting. They have been taking over hospitals local to me left and right. Next week we have a mandatory meeting and are suspecting an MQ takeover, though our supervisor is being very quiet. Right now I have an awesome situation....lots of flexibility...as long as we get our 40 hours in and our production, our supervisor is happy and we make great pay and get holidays, etc., off. Right now we are all very upset about this possibility.

MedQuist

I worked for MedQuist for 8 years; I only left because I was transferred to Radiology where I lost half my paycheck because of getting paid by the page. Translating my lines into money I would have been just fine, and my boss coudn't give me my old job back. Had to move on.

This is a HORRIBLE company. Run from them. They have changed their name to M-Modal (probably had to in attempt to outrun their terrible reputation. This company really sunk to a new low when they were bought out by an Indian owned compang, i.e. CBAY. They cut the pay 3 times in one year. They are outsourcing any decent work to India and leaving the MTs in the USA with the absolute garbage. I worked for them for 9 years, too long. I watched them systematically get rid of long-term employees with bogus audits, etc. Don't drink their Kool-Aid. If you do, you will soon find yourself on the bread line due to pathetic wages. Bait and switch is a common tactic they use, for example, they give you a quota to reach before OT kicks in, the only problem is they run out of work every time when you meet that quota and it's time for OT to kick in. I know many feel the same way I do that this company goes belly up and gets what it deserves. This company has been sued by employees for cheating them out of wages, screwing over a Pennsylvania pension fund, and the list goes on, has been delisted from the stock exchange in the past for unscrupulous practices.

Really bad

I worked for Medquist for 3 months. I tried and tried and tried, and I could not get past minimum wage. It was ridiculous. I have over 33 years experience in this field and my ROMs would tell me, hand in there, why don't you edit. your work is really good. I had no clue how to get my speed up, but that was it for me. Also, no one really seems to care. They don't care if you quit, they do not care if you can make you line counts, all they care about is that you are there typing. This was the worst company I have ever worked for.

I agree with every bad thing said about this company. I worked for Spheris before Medquist took over. I always had plenty of work except for obvious low volume times like holidays and bad weather. Now I am always in an out of work situation and not getting paid. Their solution is to just move me around to different accounts, just for the work to run out again! So frustrating!!!!! To add to the insult while I am in an out of work situation today I read an email about incentive pay to take care of a backload! What backload??? I am OUT OF WORK!!! If anyone knows of a better company that is hiring please respond to this because I'm definitely looking for another job!!

I worked there for 15 years finally being fired for making mistakes. It is just their way of getting rid of higher paid employees, and many of my friends have suffered the same fate. My pay over the 15 year period was cut by almost 50% so was glad when the day came to leave. A lousy place to work. They want more production, more quality, more error free reports and want to pay less and less and less. I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for them. I was one of their highest producers and am happy to say I am 5 months away from becoming an RN.

My account was taken away - first part of the account and only the specials team on neurology and radiation oncology, then taken away 100%, first it would be soon and then one day we found that we had no work and were told it went 100% global and that an account would be found for us. I have had to take time off with no pay (I don't have that much PTO time to use) and finally assigned an account to assist on where I would get a couple of jobs then no jobs, then a job, then no jobs. It has been 2 weeks and I am still waiting for a permanent account. Guess it is time to move on to another company.
