Recent Tells/Reviews on Paychex

working at paychex

I have worked at Paychex for 7+ years, 4 as payroll spec and 3 as a manager. The company has strong ethics and there is little of the political problems so prevalent at other companies. The work environment is respectful and you are reviewed on performance. The work is challenging and the training is great at the payroll spec level. The training and development lessens at higher levels and so does the earning potential. There are numerous opportunities for Sr payroll spec to train for and move into to increase their compensation, but only for their managers: moving up in the ranks. The result is some Sr payroll spec are compensated at or near the same levels as their manager. Overall a great place to work. Nice environment, good benefits, great job security. The job is challenging, but you can really learn more every day, just needs to add more opportunities for managers to earn additional compensation so they can keep earnings above the level of their direct reports.

Working at Paychex

Where do I start! I was in sales for Paychex for 3 1/2 yrs in the HR field. Over my 3 1/2 yrs I had 4 Different DSM, and saw about 30 reps come and go. To say turnover was a problem was is saying it very nicely! In 2009 my then DSM now turned Regional Manager came to me and said " you, and the people in your office are not going to be able to sell to one of our client base". I asked why, and was told "the DSM for this product came to me about all of the turnover and to mend the ties we are going to give all new sales to our 2 most senior reps ". That fiscal year 102,000 in revue was literally taken from me and given to another rep who did not sell the deal, infact this rep never even met the client! Oh did I mention that one of these reps and the now regional manager are very close personal friends outside of work! This went on for 3 more years, guess what the reps who got the entire sate did well, infact one went from barley making quota, to the top producing sales rep , selling more revue this company ever has seen! Weird now after 5 yrs the light bulb finally came on! In August I had enough and went to HR. I thought that HR was there to be a natural third party, many boy was I wrong! I asked HR in every email, every phone conversation to keep my slient. I knew that is they knew one person was complaining they would do anything to fire that person. All I asked HR is why do I have the same quota and expectation of sales as every other rep in the company when clearly I do not have the same chance of hitting that number. This is not a corporate policy! No where in any handbook, or guidebook does it say anything about this. Oh did I also mention that this " extending the olive branch now is taking place in all the offices this manager overseas". I never asked for anything special just a fair shot. Well Hr told them it was me on the first meeting, and a month later I was fired! This company is sad,and they do exactly opposite of what is right!

There is a lot of extra dead weight employees that can be trimmed.
They have trouble dealing with tough employees.

was scammed by the kristen short from paychex

I have a business in the Flint Area. I was told I would be receiving tax protection and also would be provided labor law posters. i was informed by the CPA she recommeded that I can treat my employees as sub-contractors and still be able to pay them to avoid tax matching. i now have a audit review with the state and The HR help I was promised is nowhere to be found. Now all of a sudden Miss Short is completely useless in this matter. Thanks a lot Paychex for all of your "SUPPORT" !!!

No growth

I still stay in contact with many ex co-workers from Paychex. The Sacramento Paychex branch is going nowhere. No growth over the last 7 years. They are consolidating their office space up to the 2nd floor only. Getting rid of all distribution people at the end of this month. Company match of 401k is only max of 2%. Not a place to go work for if you want any growth.

Sacto

Left the Sacto branch last year. There have been at least 11 employees from 1 department of 25 total to leave for various reasons since June 09. It starts off an okay place to work, but the Sacto branch has continual turnover and the pressure to cover for the shortage of people bothers you alot after awhile. Pay is okay...but again not very good after the first couple of years.
