Recent Tells/Reviews on Price Self Storage

I used to work there as well - everything written before me is true. It is a very unpleasant place to work, unless you are a lying manipulative person. But then you should sell cars anyway, pays better. If you have a choice, you should NOT ever even apply. But with the way job market is, we have to do what we have to do. Do not, however, consider this a permanent position and keep looking for something better at all times.

This place is a nightmare. DO NOT APPLY AT PRICE SELF STORAGE if you have any self respect for yourself. LYNN CHISNELL and DAVID ACKERSCHOTT are complete jerks and will crap all over you. Ms. Chisnell is a two-faced, ignorant bigot who has no respect for her subordinates. Mr. Ackerschott is a fat snake in the grass who thinks he's some sort of storage god. No job is worth having to work for these two.

this company is the worst company to be employed by and its true there is a toss up between who they treat worse tenants or employees! I have beenincreadably insulted and demeaned by Lynn chisnell and david ackerschott. The tell u to do one thing then say they never told u to do it. Then they say your performance is why they fired u. Or they treat u miserably and creat uncomfortable working conditions trying to get u to quit. They treaten your job more times then they are supportive sin solving occupancy problems. Tnts are moving out becouse of policys placed by pss holdings bot the managment but they hold managers responsable for the occupancy. They create a hostile work enviroment by threating u over the phone or bullying you in person so u can prove what they did or said to u. The create unrealistic expectations for u to meet then belittle you when u cannot meet them and insinuate and exadurate your capabilities then hold it against you. They definetly have "favorites" throughout the company who will lie for them and protect them. But just wait it will happen to them too when the time is up. Anyone who knows self storage knows its not supposed to be like this.

Horrible Working Condtions

I worked for this employer for almost three years. For all three years I was expected to work overtime for free. When asked to work at a different facility for the allowed overtime it was a choice of being paid for mileage, or getting the overtime. The company is sleazy, and does not follow most employment laws. If they want you to quit the area manager will create a bogus list of to do's, and give the site an unrealistic amount of time. It is either quit because you can't do the work, or get the write up for not being able to do the unrealistic amount of work.

When the site is low on occupancy, the area manager says call him, and he will do whatever it takes to get the prospective tenant to rent. However, when you do call him, and he actually answers the phone, he will give you a million reasons why he will not help you rent the unit. Then when the prospective tenant walks out, you will get the write up for not being able to rent the unit.

The prices for the sites are unrealistic for the area. When the site is falling, the higher ups will raise the prices, and remove all promotions. While doing all this, they will continue to call and inform all workers at the site that if the numbers do not improve, everyone will be fired. The area manager will always have a scapegoat ready so when something fails and it is directly related to something corporate has done, there is always a lower person who will take the fall.

The worst job on the planet

Price Self Storage is the worst employer you'll ever find. It's a toss up on who they treat worse, their employees or their tenants. The company is owned by a guy who hates gay people and is a religious hypocrite (easily verified by looking up Bill Hamilton and seeing how much he donated to block gay marriage in California) and all he cares about is how he can squeeze more money out of the unfortunates who rent from him and how he can cheat his employees out of their bonuses that they rightfully earned. David Ackerschott is the area manager and he is the most dispicable excuse for a human being I've ever seen. He is a liar and a pervert who is constantly getting in trouble for sexual harrassment of both tenants and employees. It's company policy to lie to tenants and claim their facility has security features it doesn't really have and to deny they ever said it later. When a delinquent unit is going to auction, the big wigs at corporate fix it so they can steal valuable items rather than properly auction the items off. The VP of Operations, Lynn Chisnell, sleazed her way into aquiring a pratically new Corvette from one unit. I think its really disgusting that such dishonest people are the ones in charge of so many others and they can steal and lie and screw over their employees and tenants and nothing ever happens to them. I'm just glad I no longer work for these jerks.

All true! Was hired by David Ackerschott and thankfully never had to deal with him so much as I was in the Inland Empire, but the area managers we went through here were all a bunch of whack jobs! Almost the same shiesty crap and I agree that Lynn Chisnell did sleaze her way up. I think if I would've been a witness to the corvette thing, I would've reported it, somehow. I know I would've been fired but I had plenty of family to take me in before finding another job. Worst job to have as a manager! I will never be a manager for self storage, ever again!

I concur with the reviews of Price Self Storage. I was part of a management team in the Inland Empire and was let go about little over two years ago. This company is not in the habit of keeping employees for very long. Not much longer than 2 years at a time. You can be doing your job plus much more to satisfy the whim of corporate, but it is never enough. Corporate flip flops and they do it on purpose to get you to quit so that they don't have to pay unemployment. Micromanagement wasn't a problem in the beginning but it started to show its ugly head soon enough and only became worse the second year managing the facility. Our first year was great and we rented like mad, knowing we would qualify for the end of year bonus. We were promised the bonus because we did so well.

Low and behold that promise was a lie. Beginning of the next year we were told we didn't qualify for the bonus for some odd reason that was never explained to us. We felt cheated but we continued to work hard every day to gain more square footage. More flip flops from corporate all year. Got so bad we were stressed, our leasing agents were stressed and it was painful to go to work every day. But we refused to quit and give them the satisfaction.

Towards the end the signs were all there that we knew we were about to be let go. Corporate would tell us to do one thing one way and then the next day it changed to the opposite, then back again. So we packed our stuff as much as we could from the free apartment and got ready for the day. When it was done, we were relieved and we qualified for unemployment, thankfully. They owed us that much for the stress they caused.

Only thing we miss are the tenants. Many of them left the moment they heard we were let go. I still hear from an employee that's there now that the site continues to drop. Their numbers are awful and it has a lot to do with corporate being real shady with rate increases, late fees and the auctions. Karma is catching up to them.

I worked for this wretched employer last year and hated every minute of it. My supervisers at the location I was at were decent people but its the people above them who are the ones who make it a miserable place to work. The people at corporate are unapproachable and all they care about is how much money they can squeeze out of the tenants thru unfair late fees and what have you. If an employee has a problem with the SLEAZY district manager, there is no one at the corporate level they can go to (like a REAL HR department) for help. I think it's because the district managers are acting on the orders they got FROM the big wigs at the main office which means the bigwigs are as sleazy as the district managers are. Management treats everyone they employ like they are untrustworthy and the higher ups spend a lot of time watching everyone on the cameras they have in each office and then reprimand the workers for every little thing no matter how unimportant it is. Price Self Storage doesn't care about anything except their profit and they treat both the tenants and their employees completely like dirt. I have never worked at a worse job in my life. The day I quit was the best day of my life. I feel sorry for anyone who takes a job with this unscrupulous, dishonest company. If you like being treated like your stupid and if you enjoy being micromanaged then this is the place you'd want to apply at. The only good thing I can say about the company is that my fellow co-workers were nice people caught in a horrible job like I was.

I am both surprised and disappointed to find that I am the first to review Price Self Storage as an employer. Everything about this company is dishonest- even the name of the company reflects this. The owner of the company is not Sol Price- it is a man of the name of Bill Hamilton.

The structure of the company is a model example of micromanagement. Not only is each and every storage site undermanned every single day, but the managers of the sites also have their hands tied. Managers are unable to waive fees or adjust rates- this privileged discretion is left solely to the TWO area managers. You can imagine how smoothly the day to day operations of a site are with this en genius setup.

Auctions of storage units are a regular thing. They will move in anyone for no money up front and then gladly auction their belongings not even two months down the line. The company has an expert legal team and goes to court for lawsuits regularly- this says something about a company. They do not take payments over the phone.

Everything this person wrote is true and there is so much more that is awful about this terrible employer that they didn't mention. My experience there was just as horrible and I am glad I am working somewhere else now.
