Management is completely incompetent. The VP of FW was a Mech engineer, so every day is a struggle to explain the simplest of concepts to him. Management will dictate how something are to be done and then run away when things don't work out a week later.

Career Path: A complete joke. There is no career path at WD. Not once have I had a talk with my boss or HR about what I do or where I'm going in my career. I get a new boss ever 6 months month because of constant "re-orgs", even though my job is always the same.

Work Environment: Terrible.
You can't find parking.
People fight over lab equipment.
We are only given a small lab bench to work from (think of a small lab bench from college). Imagine trying to code or debug with 10 people having conversations around you.
You are on call 24/7 for the simplest of reasons (usually because management can't figure out their job) and needs your help to understand what button they need to push next.

The sector in which the company operates is now commoditized and hence pricing is under tremendous pressure. This creates tremendous budget squeeze in all areas of company. To cope with the economic downturn, they told us to use up our 2008 vacation and that there would be no layoffs. A month later, in January, 2009, they laid off a large number of employees. For a technology company, they're startlingly reluctant to "eat their own dog food".

It has just been announced that the upper management plans to reduce its workforce being hit by economic disorder. Many of the employees are expecting their names to be included in the hit list. I am also constantly worried about it as the possibility is higher in my case too. I have already started finding out for some other sources. Company has low tendency to back up employees in this regard. The same bloody culture is demoralizing other employees. I don’t how long it will take to come out of this mayhem
